IKEA collaborates with social businesses around the world to design unique products which create jobs for people that needs it the most.

This product is made by Classical in Bangladesh – a social business which, through its sustainable production of objects in jute, creates jobs and a steady income for women in rural areas.

Just as decorative as practical and can be used for many different things and in several different ways to make everyday life easier.

A large and tall basket that is nice to have standing on the floor. Maybe for throws and cushions by the sofa or as a laundry basket in the bathroom?

Easy to carry from one room to another since the basket has 2 sturdy handles.

The most exciting thing about making the MÄVINN collection was the opportunity to work with the social businesses and artisans in person where their manufacturing takes place. We started by sending a couple of sketches and then travelled there to look at the first samples. With their knowledge and experience, together we could create something even better. Meeting the people who make the products in India, Bangladesh and Jordan was an absolutely fantastic experience!

In the MÄVINN collection we’ve consistently worked with strong colours, squares and stripes – and added a black cat as a playful twist. Being 2 designers with different professional backgrounds felt incredibly luxurious. We hope that the products will make you look twice, but most of all we want you to appreciate how the collection is created in collaboration with social businesses and skilled artisans – that there is a person behind every object.
