Continuing the journey of IKEA Food

We constantly strive to offer you better and more sustainable food, and are proud of what we’ve done so far. But we won’t stop here. We will continue to add products inspired by our Swedish heritage, produced with respect for people and the planet, in our IKEA Restaurants, IKEA Bistros and IKEA Swedish Food Markets. Food that’s nutritionally balanced, more sustainable, plant-based, organic, UTZ certified – and of course, tasty, so you will like it. In other words, food you can trust and feel good about eating, in every possible way.

Start your day fresh with certified cage free eggs

Our commitment to more sustainable agriculture and better animal welfare is strongly connected to the IKEA vision of creating a better everyday life for many people.

At IKEA we believe that in order to achieve improved animal welfare, the environments animals are reared in, the way the animals are handled and standard on-farm practices must prioritize good physical health, good mental health, and the expression of natural behavior.

Starting from Oct 2021, IKEA Swedish Restaurant will gradually introduce certified cage free eggs for restaurant dishes. See more our dishes with certified cage free eggs

What is cage-free egg?

Humanely raised

Cage free eggs are produced in a farming system that allows hens to move freely, nest freely and free to engage in natural behaviors.

Ensure food quality

Egg farm certified by cage free alliance(CFA), ensuring egg primary production and processing standards.

Food safety and human health

Reduce hens susceptible to disease and reduce contamination of eggs.

The meatless meatball

What looks and tastes like meat, but contains no meat? That would be our new plant ball of course. It has the look, taste and juicy bite of its meaty counterpart. And rumour has it, once you’ve tasted it, you’ll be back for more.

The future is plant-based

By increasing the proportion of our plant-based food – such as the plant ball – we are getting closer to our goal of becoming climate positive by 2030. Meat lover or vegan, making sustainable choices benefits us all, and we plan to make the world a greener place, one plant ball at a time. We sell around 1 billion meatballs a year, so converting even just some of them into plant balls will make a real difference.
“We actually hope that we sell less meatballs.”
Sharla Halvorson, Health & Sustainability Manager at IKEA Food

Where vegans and meat lovers meet

Developed with meat lovers in mind, the plant ball is made from pea protein, oats, potato and apple. The meaty taste is achieved by adding umami flavours, such as mushroom, tomato and roasted vegetables. It does not include any animal-based ingredients which makes it a more sustainable choice, and is therefore suitable for vegan and vegetarian diets.

An ocean full of flavour

You’re sweet enough already

On our journey towards a wider offer of healthier and more sustainable food, we’ve cut in half the sugar content of our drinks in the IKEA Restaurants and IKEA Bistros, in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. We’re also offering more flavours to choose from. Less sugar, more taste.
