Our world is changing rapidly, but we are optimistic about the future. We believe that over time more and more people can and will have a better everyday life. To make this a reality requires bold ambitions and commitments to urgent actions. It also means working together to tackle the big challenges we cannot solve alone.
Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award
IKEA Taiwan has secured the 13th position in the foreign enterprise category of the 2023 'Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award' by Common Wealth Magazine. Additionally, we have achieved the first place in the retail industry within this category.
Over the years, IKEA Taiwan has steadfastly promoted sustainable green business practices. Our Blue Bag Fund scheme encourages each store to utilize the fund for the betterment of their local community. The 'Textile to Textile Project' repurposes curtains, transforming them into fabric. This initiative reduces textile waste while offering a gift to IKEA Family card members. Additionally, we have introduced the first electric vehicle (EV) truck to facilitate replenishment deliveries to our stores in Neihu, Taoyuan, and Taichung.
This award recognizes our dedication to making sustainability a core value and earning the trust of the public. We remain committed to contributing to sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Taiwan.
Circular and climate positive
Our ambition to be circular and climate positive by 2030, we have collaborated with Taipei 101 and Taiwan Power Company for circular business that offers leasing service. In the end of 2022, we launch office furniture leasing service for IKEA for Business members. We aim to share and engage consumers in the concept of a circular economy, and to work together to create a balanced model that is in harmony with both people and the environment, enabling green living to be practiced in our daily lives.
Reduce carbon emissions
IKEA has installed solar panels at its Neihu, Hsinchuang, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung stores, as well as its distribution center. The total annual carbon reduction from solar power generation is equivalent to the benefit of approximately 12 Daan Forest Parks, or planting more than 380,000 trees—clearly demonstrating the environmental value of renewable energy.
At the same time, each store continues to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact through operational improvements, including the adoption of energy-efficient equipment, optimization of lighting and air-conditioning systems, installation of water-saving devices, and enhanced recycling and waste management practices. These efforts embed sustainability into everyday operations.
Electric truck
IKEA’s global ambition is to achieve zero emissions from product deliveries and become climate positive by 2030. With the facilitation of Swedish electric vehicle brand Scania, IKEA has partnered with TCC Group’s Taiwan Transport to introduce Taiwan’s first 26-ton electric truck. This vehicle is dedicated to replenishment deliveries from the distribution center to 3 of IKEA stores. At the same time, IKEA has collaborated with TCC Energy Storage to install charging infrastructure. Through this three-way partnership, IKEA is helping to accelerate the development of zero-carbon and green logistics transportation in Taiwan.
Although the cost of electric trucks remains higher than that of conventional diesel vehicles, IKEA is committed to balancing environmental, economic, and social impact. By investing in electric trucks, IKEA continues to deliver its commitment to environmental sustainability. Compared with a 10.5-ton diesel truck, the use of a 26-ton electric truck reduces carbon emissions by approximately 18%, equivalent to a reduction of 5.38 tons of CO₂e.
Ocean-themed exhibition
We hold zero-waste events to experience the beauty of "old" things with consumers. In 2022, stores hold ocean-themed exhibitions to raise awareness of the importance of ocean sustainability, caring for people and the planet.
"Textile to Textile" project
IKEA cares for the people and planet, we have a clear purpose to facilitate change that matters when it comes to sustaining the planet. Adhering to this notion, IKEA Taiwan has joined the "Textile to Textile" project, to repurpose curtains unfit for sale or returned from customers to become the fabric for IKEA tote bags, reducing textile waste and disposal, ultimately tackling global challenges such as waste and pollution.
IKEA Light Up Hope
From 2020, we collaborate with World Vision Taiwan to hold “IKEA Light Up Hope” program continually supports disadvantaged families to replace old appliances with energy-efficient ones, while providing them with environmental education and the knowledge of disaster prevention, incorporating the concept of sustainability into the livelihood empowerment of these families. We aim to support families in need to understand the importance of acting on climate change, build a sustainable home together
