What is bamboo?

Strong, flexible and one of the world's fastest growing plants – bamboo has many uses that make it an excellent renewable material. It’s a type of grass and usually grows without the need for fertilizers or irrigation. After being harvested, it grows new shoots that are ready for harvesting after 4-6 years. At IKEA we use bamboo for items like furniture, bathroom decor, baskets and lamps – and we are constantly exploring more areas of use for this versatile material.

Swaying bamboo becomes timeless furniture

Did you know that bamboo is actually a grass? After growing for some years, it becomes as hard as wood and at the same time stronger and easier to bend than most types of wood. So, we headed out on a creative excursion to make the most out of its unique qualities rather than copying wood. VOXLÖV is the first result, a timeless table, and a chair just as flexible and soft as swaying bamboo – a comfortable place where good moments last longer.

Environment

By using a fast-growing, renewable material like bamboo in this product, we avoid using fossil or finite materials. We want to have a positive impact on the planet. That is why by 2030, we want all materials in our products to be recycled or renewable, and sourced in responsible ways. By using paper from responsibly managed forests in this product, we lower our environmental impact.

Care instructions

Wipe clean with a cloth dampened in a mild cleaner.
Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
If placed close to a radiator or other source of heat, the material can dry out and deteriorate.
For increased stability, re-tighten the screws about two weeks after assembly and when necessary.
