What is recycled polyester?

When we create products from recycled polyester, PET bottles and other sources of polyester get a new life in products like textiles, storage boxes, kitchen fronts and even lamps. When using them, you get to enjoy exactly the same quality and function as with virgin polyester products. And naturally, they’re just as clean and safe in every way. And perhaps the very best part – you contribute to using less new raw materials too.

Environment

IKEA has banned the use of chlorine bleaching agents in the production of textiles and paper products due to the negative impact on the environment. Since 1996 IKEA has banned harmful dyestuffs, e.g. azo dyes, in textile and leather production. IKEA has strict requirements for the use of phthalates in all our products, and we have totally banned them in children’s and food-contact products. By using recycled polyester in this product, we consume less new raw materials and lower our environmental impact while existing materials get new life. We want to have a positive impact on the planet. That is why by 2030, we want all materials in our products to be recycled or renewable, and sourced in responsible ways.
